Margaret Ackland is renowned for her expressive and vibrant use of colour and in her latest exhibition, Tipping Point, her compositions capture quiet moments of watching between the artist and her objects during the pandemic. We encounter Margaret at the Stanley Street Gallery. Open ended meanings that allow the viewer to engage with the work to create their own narratives based on personal experience is Wendy Sharpe’s challenge to all that gaze on. Wheel of Fortune opened last week at the King Street Gallery on William to a wide eyed audience. Sharpe’s conditional questions of ‘what if’ is haunting as it is captivating – and ultimately reflects the inherent uncertainty and mysteries of life. I caught up with her following the exhibition opening in amongst her work. Curators Emma O’Neill and Alex Gawronski talk us through Writing Backwards, which is the third exhibition in an annual series of exhibitions focused on independent artist organisations at the Sydney College of Arts. The exhibition presents four Sydney-based independent publishers whose work emerges from artmaking, to consider their processes. The Salons returns to the Chrissie Cotter Gallery with love lines, a boutique program of art-after-hours experiences including an exhibition, workshops and performance curated in the response to the theme of love. The program explores the interwoven paths of poetry, music and the visual arts. We hear from two of the three curators, who took time-out from their opening night preparations.
Produced and presented by Angela Stretch, the program participants acknowledge the custodians of the Gadigal lands from which the program has been produced and broadcasts from at Eastside Radio.
